I met John when he move into our neighborhood when we were in grade school. We played ball and rode our bikes together many days and remained friends for life. For those who read this may not know how good a baseball player John was. We grew up in a working class neighborhood with about 7 other boys our age give or take a year. We would sleep out in my backyard in the summer and at 10:00 pm my mother would say goodnight and lock the door. We mounted up our bikes and road all over south Amarillo eating cherries and peaches off peoples trees. Always home by sunup. A great friend and really good guy. When I went into the Army John went to the Marines. They didn’t have to teach him to be a man of integrity as he was already that man when he signed up. I have many great memories and would take a book to list them all so I’ll finish with the Bob Hope Classic “Thanks for the Memories “

This dash (the time between John Persefield's birth date and death date) is so beautifully written and captures who John was. John was very friendly and enjoyed engaging others in conversation. His faith and his devotion to Barbara and the family was obvious. He and Barbara immediately became active in several ministries as soon as they joined Spring Valley UMC and The Seekers Class. That's impressive!
We will miss John.

What a lovely, kind and encouraging spirit. It was a joy and honor to sit in the pew behind John and Barbara in church...they shared much laughter and were so clearly devoted to each other. Really the definition of a "couple" in the very best way, and a great inspiration to us.
He will be greatly missed. We love you Barbara.
