Johnny Earl Cook's Obituary
Johnny Earl Cook went home to be with Jesus on August 14, 2024, at his home in Plano, Texas. Born to Virgil and Meryl Cook on January 10, 1946, he was raised in Iola, Texas.
Johnny served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war as an Electrician’s Mate on the USS McGinty, Destroyer Escort, and received the National Defense Service Medal. After his naval service, he returned to his roots, where he worked in construction sales and cattle ranching, eventually moving to North Texas, where he met and married his wife, Elsa Lynn Spears.
Johnny took immense pride in his family, often sharing stories of his children and grandchildren with anyone willing to listen. He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Harrod (husband, Dr. Carson Harrod) and his son, Jason Riley (wife, Sarah Riley); his six grandchildren, Dr. Tanner Harrod (wife, Mily Harrod), Savannah Harrod, Hannah Riley, Becca Speer (husband, Easton Speer), Lauren McGough, and Landen McGough; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Speer and Riley Jo Loper, who were the light of his life.
An active member of the American Legion, Johnny was a great support to his local chapter. His quiet presence and steadfast loyalty made him a valued member, where he contributed in his own understated way.
A memorial service celebrating Johnny’s life will be held on August 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas. He will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in a brief ceremony on August 28, 2024, at 11:15 AM. Donations can be made to the American Legion or to the Worship Choir Ministry fund at The Heights Baptist Church.
His presence will be missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of lovingly knowing him.
