Johnny Louis Ray's Obituary
Johnny Louis Ray was born on June 23,1934 to Johnnie Milton Ray and Olline Pope Ray in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Dallas attending Robert E. Lee Elementary, J. L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated from SMU with an Electrical Engineering degree participating in a Co-Op program with Texas Power and Light. He received his Masters of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Johnny met his bride of 70 years, Ruby Hanvy Ray, at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church. They married on July 16, 1955. Johnny and Ruby had two children, Rhonda and Dwight. Johnny joined the U. S. Army Reserves with a six year commitment and was honorably discharged. He participated in a co-op program with Texas Power and Light while attending SMU. He remained with TP&L rising in the ranks until his early retirement in 1992. After retirement he taught computer classes at Richland College. Johnny served in many capacities during his lifetime including Sunday School teacher, deacon in his beloved First Baptist Church in Dallas, mission programs here and abroad, ESL teacher for Chinese students here and for a year in China, neighborhood watch, voting precinct chairman, and more. Johnny had a servant's heart.
Johnny's order for living was God, family, job, and church. His passions in life were fixing anything broken, computers, photography, vacationing, tennis, skiing, 42, and serving others. Johnny will always be remembered as a man of great faith, honorable character, wonderful sense of humor, kindness, and his ability to talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Milton Ray, his mother, Jewel Olline Pope Ray, his stepmother, Ruth Cude Ray, and his sister, Jennifer Ray Kinney.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Ruby Hanvy Ray, brother, Jimmy Ray and his wife, Emma Lou Ray, brother, Charles Ray, brother in law, Mike Kinney, sister in law, Donna Womack, sister in law, Sandy Wallace and her husband, Freddie Wallace, daughter, Rhonda Richardson and her husband, Kyle Richardson, son, Dwight Ray and his wife, Charlotte Ray, grandchildren Joseph Richardson, Megan Segura, Douglas Ray, Tyler Griffith and her husband, Alex Griffith, Kaila Clutz and her husband, Stephen Clutz, Katie Ray, David Ray, Leah Ray, and Jonathan Ray, great grandchildren Kylee Vork, Luke Richardson, Henry Griffith, James Griffith, Tobias Clutz, Elaina Clutz, William Ray, Ian Valdez, and Jackson Arce. Johnny also had many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Johnny passed from this life on May 24, 2026, into the presence of His Heavenly Father. His family and friends feel a loss but know as believers we will be reunited again. We have faith that Johnny was received into Heaven with the words, "Welcome Home, my good and faithful servant."
