Joseph T. Gilbert's Obituary
GILBERT, Joseph Teagarden was born August 1, 1929 to Franklin Pierce Gilbert, Jr., and Christine Violet Teagarden, and passed away June 30, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. Joe was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he was President of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1951. He held intercollegiate championships in chess and duplicate bridge. He was a member of American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, past member of The American Society of Civil Engineers, Association of Federal Appraisers, and Dallas Board of Realtors. Joe’s lifetime career with the Internal Revenue Service began in 1978 until his retirement in 1996. He was an expert witness throughout various States and Courts of the United States regarding technical valuations and depreciations of property, including design, construction, accounting, and had the ability to meet and deal with prominent people. Joe’s activities were real estate investments, tennis, golf, bowling, swimming, chess, bridge, Boy Scouts of America Committeeman, Junior High Youth Program Sponsor and lifetime member at East Dallas Christian Church. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kristina Lynn Greene, sister Gloria and brother-in-law Karl Martensen, brother Frank Gilbert III and sister-in-law Pollyanna of Houston, Texas, and brothers-in-law John Douglas Logan of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Herman Horace Humphreys of Flower Mound, Texas. Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jimmie Jean Humphreys; son Scott Douglas Gilbert, daughter-in-law Nailya Ibragimova Gilbert, and grandsons Mason Aleksandr and Jake Austin Gilbert (Dallas); son-in-law Sean Patrick Greene (Lewisville), and grandson Kevin Andrew Greene (Dallas), great grandson Kash Ryder Greene (Little Elm); and grandson Navy Petty Officer First Class Christopher Joseph Greene (Virginia Beach, Virginia); nieces Gayle and Lisa Martensen of Dallas and Corsicana; nephew Tracy (Vicki) Gilbert of Austin, Texas, and niece Patty (Richard) Shriver of Houston; sisters-in-law Margaret Janet Humphreys Logan, (Grand Prairie, TX) and Anita Nolen Humphreys, (Flower Mound, TX); and numerous great nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Reverend Deborah Morgan Stokes of East Dallas Christian Church at 12:30 PM, Friday, July 7, 2017 in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland. Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
