Col. Joseph Warren Miles' Obituary
Col. Joseph Warren Miles went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2009. Col. Miles was born to Lena Lee Hoag Miles and John Wesley Miles on July 11, 1916, in Crowley, Louisiana. He married Jacqueline Henderson on May 22, 1938. He and his wife lived in Dallas, Texas for over 30 years. He was an active member of Preston Hollow United Methodist Church where he also participated in the Parkinson’s group. Col. Miles volunteered for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels Program. As a young man he was a Fireman with the Shreveport Fire Department. Col. Miles retired as Chief of the Office of Special Investigations at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He was also based out of Hickham Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii where he did extensive work in the South Pacific. He received two Air Force Commendation Medals. Col. Miles thought very often of the many men who he served alongside of during his years in the military and how each of them had touched his life. Col. Miles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jackie; two daughters, Pamela Hollis (Oscar) and Patty Nichols; grandchildren, Jonathan Hollis, Tracey Carver (Joshua), Christopher Guajardo (Jena); as well as great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Nicole Guajardo. He is also survived by his brother, Francis Miles (Ruby); along with many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his brother, Woodrow and sister, Margie. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church; 6315 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX. Burial with full military honors will be held in Restland Memorial Park.
