Joseph Vernon Tucker's Obituary
Joseph Vernon “Vern” Tucker was born on November 28, 1930 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and passed away on September 13, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. He married Betty Stanfield on November 19, 1954 and they were married for 61 years. Vern studied electrical engineering at LSU, and worked for IBM for 31 years. Vern was a computer specialist at the Clear Lake Space Center during the early space flights. He also served in the Air Force at Keesler and Tyndall Air Force bases and in Japan during the Korean War. After retirement from IBM, Vern co-owned two businesses, American Computronics and On-Line Technical Services. Vern loved to play golf and travel. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lorio Tucker Sr. and Marie Lula Neff; brothers, Joseph Curwood Tucker (Florence) and Joseph Hayden Tucker; sisters, Marie Glen Doris Painter and Marie Lula Belle Tucker. He is survived by wife, Betty Tucker; daughter, Debbie Tucker Thompson (Warren); daughter, Terri Tucker Pitts (Robert); grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson Vogds (Tony), Christopher Colt Thompson, Robert Travis Pitts (Gabrielle), and Terrence Taylor Pitts; two great grandchildren, Olivia Leigh Hamilton and Harper Lynn Vogds; brother, Joseph Lorio Tucker Jr.(Carole) and sister- in-law Winnie Tucker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the care givers at The Family’s Choice and Hospice Compassus for their loving care for Vern during the last two months. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 11 AM at All Saints Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
