Kathryn Ann Burrell's Obituary
Kathryn Ann Burrell was born on July 3, 1938, to the loving union of Joe Henry Willis and Callie Hervey-Willis, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the fourth child of this blessed union. Kathryn is survived by her beloved sisters: Imogene Smith (Carl Smith), Sarah Deloney (preceded her in death) (David Deloney), Tommie People (Ira People), and Meda Allen (Marshall Allen).
Raised in Dallas, Texas, Kathryn attended Booker T. Washington High School, where she graduated with honors. Following her passion for food and cooking, she pursued studies in Culinary Arts and became a skilled Chef. Together with her husband, Willie Burrell—who also preceded her in death—Kathryn owned and operated a burger and record stand. Known for her exceptional lunch specials, customers traveled from near and far to enjoy her cooking. Her pineapple cakes became legendary and were often requested by those fortunate enough to taste them.
Kathryn had many interests and joys in life. She loved barbecue, fishing, and sports—especially cheering for her Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, sitting peacefully in nature. Yet, her greatest joy came from serving others, particularly seniors and children, to whom she gave her time, care, and love.
At an early age, Kathryn accepted Christ and grew up in the Pentecostal Church, where she remained an active and devoted member. She found fulfillment in serving in the church and took great delight in the fellowship of her family, especially spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Kathryn leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, generosity, and joy. She is survived by her three sisters, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues who will forever cherish her memory.
