Kelvin B. Bates' Obituary
Kelvin B. Bates of Dallas, Texas was born on February 16, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Luther and Mildred Bates. He passed away on December 22, 2020. He married Sheila Simon Bates on June 14, 1996 in New Orleans. Kelvin will be remembered for his love for life. He loved to spend time with his family by hosting BBQ cookouts, and his famous seafood boils. He loved to dance to his Reggie music with his wife, watch his favorite sports teams, and spend time with his children and grandchildren. But more than anything, Kelvin loved the Lord. He was baptized as a child at Greater Hill of Zion Baptist Church in New Orleans and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and Hartzell United Methodist Church of New Orleans, Louisiana. Kelvin was a retired Welder/Glazier in the construction industry for 38 years. He served in the Marines in the Artillery division. He is preceded in death by Father, Luther Bates; Mother, Mildred Bates; Sisters, Patti Bates and Cynthia Bates-Mitchell, and Brother, Reverend Harron Bates (Mary Bates), and Brother-in-Law, Anthony Simon Jr. Kevin is survived by his wife Sheila Simon-Bates, Sons Kelvin Walker, Shelton Dauzart Jr., and Jamal Bates. Daughters Keldranne Bates, and Brittany Bates. He leaves behind 6 grandkids, including his devoted Grand-daughter Kassidy Cross. Sisters’ Gloria Bates-Braud (Debroid Braud), Linda Bates-Jiles (Dewitt-Jiles), and Gaye Bates-Macklin (Donald Macklin), Brother-in-Laws Cedric Simon (Angel Simon), Antione Johnson (Tiffany Johnson) and Corey Simon. Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Anthony Sr and Ruby Simon. Sister-in-Law TroyLynn Simon-St. Junior. Devoted Aunts, Isabeller Mackey and Sadie Landry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 8th, 2021 Restland Memorial Chapel.
