Larry Wayne Elsey was born on March 26, 1943 in Dallas, Texas, the son of Bert Francis and Willie Minalee Elsey. He passed away on November 30, 2021. He was a 16-year survivor of a double-lung transplant and inspired those around Read Obituary
Larry was a friend since childhood. We first met when we were six years old in Mrs. Walker’s first grade class at Letot Elementary and were classmates at Thomas Jefferson High School until graduation in 1961. We saw each other over the years, and it was always a pleasure to visit and hear his life stories.
Recently, we served together on our TJ class’s 60th reunion committee. He was a delight to work with and we were always uplifted by his ideas, suggestions, gentle humor, and many wonderful memories. He was so happy about the reunion because he loved his classmates and was committed to making it one of the best.
Larry was a fine man who loved and served his family and many friends. He had a deep faith and incredible courage that left a shining example and deep footprints for us to follow. We will see him again because we’re all classmates and Rebels forever. May God hold Larry close in His everlasting arms and comfort Tommie and their family.
Tommie, my heart is absolutely broken for you. I am so sorry that you are going through this, but I also know that your strong faith and the love that surrounds you will help heal. You and Larry were simply one of my favorite couples in the world, and he brought so much joy and laughter to life. I consider myself so blessed to have known him. Love you, Tommie!
Tommie, I know your heart is broken but think of the wonderful gift God has given Larry. He is at home, is not in pain and he is at peace. What a great feeling! There will be hard days ahead but you can get through those times and you can laugh at the ‘Larry’ stories people will tell. I love to hear ‘Mike’ stories told over and over, and I think how wonderful it was to have him as long as I did. You’ll feel that way, too. Love you!

We are so sad to learn of Larry’s death. My husband and I got to know him through the PF Warriors support group where he helped us frequently as our group got started. He’s been such an inspiration to all of us in the pulmonary fibrosis community and we loved and respected him so much!
