Latham Lee Dewey's Obituary
Latham Lee Dewey transitioned peacefully on July 29, 2015 at Sonata Assisted Living in Melbourne, FL. Born Justin Latham Lucy Jr. on August 18, 1932, in Houston, TX, to Justin Latham Lucy and Alice Dewey Lucy. As an only child of a divorced, only child, Lee and his mother later changed their names to carry on the name of his beloved grandfather, Levi “Lee” Dewey. Lee graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas in 1950 and attended SMU. He was a lifelong, faithful servant of the Episcopal Church and joyously served as a member of the vestry or ushering on Sunday morning. He also enjoyed serving at what he called “the soup kitchen” and found it quite amusing that all the people he served called him by the decoration on his apron, “Grandpa”. Lee lived in Texas until his job transferred him to Florida in 1996. His career in purchasing led him to a tenure as president of the Dallas chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Managers, but his greatest role was being our dad, and Dad wore many hats, from Indian Guide leader to single parent and softball coach. Lee loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys! He loved music, dancing, TV, movies, his friends and his family. He had a wonderful and witty sense of humor and the greatest smile. He loved fun and he shared his joy, wit and laughter with all that knew him. Twice widowed, he was preceded in death by his wives, D. Jean Dewey in 1995 and L. Audrey Merlin in April of this year. He is survived by his children Lee A. Dewey of Dallas, Clifton Dewey of Dallas and wife Joanna, Anna Turner Andreasen of Kissimmee, FL and fiancé Rick Robertson, grandchildren Latham “Lee” Dewey, Natalie Dewey Livedalen, Lee Jones, Aaron Jones and six great-grandchildren. Lee is also survived by his nieces, Delecia Perry Shuttleworth and Dee Dee Perry Walker. Services will be held at 9:00 am Friday, August 14th, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243, followed by inurnment at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243, or the charity of your choice.
