Lee Roy Treadway's Obituary
Lee Roy Treadway was born May 31, 1944 at home in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Homer and Jewel Treadway. He passed away peacefully at home in Garland, May 13, 2024, in the presence of his family. He married Patricia Williams, June 22, 1963, after a one-year courtship that began in 1962 at the All State Convention in Dallas, Texas. As talented musicians from rival high schools in Amarillo, Lee Roy was first chair trombone in the All-State orchestra while Patricia was the first chair, first soprano in the All-State Choir. The Amarillo High Sandy dragged the Tascosa High Rebel out on the dance floor at the convention celebration, and they danced together until his passing, Monday morning, with Pat still by his side as she had been for almost 61 years.
Lee Roy graduated from The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Pharmacy in 1967 having achieved the top of his class in chemistry. During his time in Austin, he was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, where he and Pat made lifelong, christian friends. Lee Roy went to work as a pharmacist at Williams Drug and moved from Austin to Waco, where their first child, Ashlee, was born. Recruited by Harold Simmons, Lee Roy and Pat moved to the Dallas area in 1969, and began their long service as members of FBC Dallas. He and Pat expanded their family again with the birth of Tiffany, and then Brandon.
Lee Roy transitioned to Page Drug, of Cullum Companies, Inc., as a pharmacist in 1970. A gifted manager and strategist, Lee Roy advanced as Store Director, Director of Pharmacy, VP of Pharmacy, then GM of Drugstore Operations for Cullum. During his tenure with Cullum, he served as President of the Texas Federation of Drugstores, expanded Page Drug statewide, opened nursing home servicing pharmacies, and hospital pharmacies. His talent as a visionary for retail Drug Stores included bringing vision care to Tom Thumb Page stores and expanding to strategic locations in downtown Dallas, long before Uptown was established. Page Drug was acquired by Eckerd (acquired by CVS) due to its profitability and strategic position in the market. Lee Roy also played a key role in a strategic partnership between Cullum and Sam Walton, known as Hypermart. This megastore gave birth to what we now know as the Walmart Supercenter. Lee Roy was recruited by Sonny Williams to serve in a similar role with Minyard, from which he retired.
After joining FBC Dallas, April 27, 1969, he and Pat searched out ways in which to serve. He encouraged Pat as she immediately joined the Sanctuary Choir, and their children joined the children’s ministries. Believing and living Dr. Criswell’s challenge of, “we will see you every time the church door is open”, Lee Roy and Pat worked as Sunday School directors and teachers for 8th grade, Young Adults, and Pathfinders where he led the class as President and loved leading the music. He also gave his musical talents as a member of Celebration Singers. He was ordained as a deacon, January 1, 1981. As a deacon he served on multiple committees such as Finance and Personnel, and ultimately as Chairman in 1999. His service to the church included the pastor’s search team in 1988, the Intercessory Ministry, Faith Evangelism, and a team leader for Evangelism Explosion. Recognized for his leadership, he was appointed as a board member for both Criswell College and Dallas Baptist University.
Lee Roy’s first love was spending time with his wife and family. Music was a constant presence in his home: playing a stack of 45s on the console stereo as he danced with his wife and kids, singing as Pat played the piano, playing Heart and Soul and, “You get line I’ll get a pole, honey…” on the piano with the family, playing Reveille to wake the kids, and encouraging active participation in music programs. Lee Roy also expressed his love through laughter and good-hearted fun around the home. Whether it was an
all-out water fight both inside, and outside of the house, a rubber band war, or just hiding someone’s desert on Sunday afternoon, Lee Roy loved to laugh and to make his family laugh. He was a constant presence at athletic events, music recitals, and concerts as his children grew and moved on to start their own careers and families.
The Lord took him home to be with his parents, Homer Lee and Jewel Ruth, his brother Harold Dean, nephew Gary Lynn, and niece Brenda Moses. In heaven he is praying and waiting for his wife Patricia Williams Treadway, daughter Ashlee Treadway of Dallas, daughter Tiffany Treadway Izquierdo and husband Jesus Rafael Izquierdo Hernandez of Garland, son Brandon Treadway and wife Ashley, grandson Joshua Reid of Cleburne, and great niece and nephew Courtney and Davin Moses.
