Wow, how the memories have visited our family today, as we learned of the passing of our friend Leon Kennedy. Kristen and I became friends in Mrs. Gladys Allen's 1st grade class. Little did I know that she would become my very best friend during those innocent, wonder years at Austin Elementary School here in Sulphur Springs, where Leon was hired to be the head basketball coach at SSHS. What fun we had, laughing, spending time at each others houses, and at the "City" swimming pool in the summertime. When the family moved to Blackwell, OK, I spent 3 of the most fun weeks of my life there. I remember Leon working in the wheat fields that summer and us listening to Carol King on the radio. He was like a second dad to me for a while and what I remember the most was that Leon could always make me laugh! The Gideon family loved the Kennedys very much. Thanks for all the memories and fun times. Gail (Gideon) Westbrook Betty and Jane (Gideon) Lawrence

No one in Sulphur Springs, Tx will ever forget Coach Kennedy and his wonderful family. Coach Kennedy was the greatest and funniest teacher I had. I looked forward to going to his class each day. Watching him coach basketball was so entertaining and exciting. He was a mentor to so many young men and women. I have so many amazing memories of Coach Kennedy in my life and I will always hold a special place for him and his family in my heart. Happy Trails Coach Kennedy.
There has never been and never will be another Leon Kennedy. I was Leon's secretary with Garland ISD for eleven years and those years hold many wonderful memories. Boy, could he tell stories! He would begin with one story which sidetracked to many others! I will always consider he and Peggy as dear friends. I love his daughters and one grandson in particular, Austin. Talk about memories! Leon will always bring a smile to my face when I think of him. My love and Blessings go out to his family. Pat Miller
