Leon Edwin Kennedy's Obituary
Leon Edwin Kennedy of Garland Texas passed away peacefully on October, 31, 2015. Leon was born to Albert and Alma Kennedy on September 10, 1934 in Mustand,Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Marguerite Elliot. After graduating from Moore High School in Oklahoma, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Oklahoma where he played basketball and baseball. After graduating from Southeastern he began his coaching career in Mustang, Oklahoma. From there he moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas where he was the head basketball coach and assistant coach in other sports for 10 years. From Sulphur Springs Leon briefly coached basketball in Blackwell, Oklahoma before he got the head basketball coaching position at North Garland High School in 1971. He coached the Raiders for 7 years. He went into Garland ISD administration before retiring in June 2000. Some of Leon’s favorite things were a dip in the hot tub first thing in the morning, hot coffee, 2 eggs over-medium, The Dallas Morning News, garage sales, cooking on the grill, cornbread and milk, a big bowl of homemade vanilla ice cream, college sports, Gunsmoke, being in control of the TV remote control, the DVR, the mute button, his dog TC, square dancing, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Peggy Kennedy, his 3 daughters – Kristin Robertson, Karen Hayes, Karla Kennedy, and his 3 grandchildren – Austin Hayes, Adam Hayes, and Jamie O’Brien. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will take place at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
