Dr. Lewis Roy Eidson's Obituary
Lewis Roy Eidson was born October 16, 1928 in Sweetwater, Texas. He went to meet his Savior on Friday, September 19, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Beulah Eidson, and two children, Kendall and Gina. He is survived by his wife Mary John; his son, Mike; and daughters, Sherry and Debbie; as well as two sisters, Leta Dozier of Abilene and Jane McAdoo of Haskell. Lewis had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who lovingly called him “Big.” Lewis joined the Army as soon as he finished high school. He served in Berlin, for a time, at the conclusion of WWII. He returned to Abilene a short time later to attend McMurry University where he majored in Biology and met the love of his life, Mary John. Lewis and Mary John moved to San Antonio, Texas following graduation where he taught Chemistry and Biology at Alamo Heights High School. They moved to Dallas a few years later to attend Baylor College of Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry in the White Rock area, and spent many happy years with Mary John. After Lewis retired from dentistry, he spent 12 years driving a tram at the Dallas Arboretum as a volunteer. His life took on a new level of fulfillment as he was surrounded each week by the beauty of God’s creation and the people he met. Lewis was very active in his profession. He served as the President of the Dallas County Dental Society, and as Chairman of the Dallas Midwinter Dental Clinic. He was inducted into the American College of Dentistry, as well as the International College of Dentists. Lewis taught, for a time period at Baylor Dental School. Lewis’s gift of leadership extended to The Boy Scouts of America. He made numerous trips to Philmont Scout Ranch and attained the rank of Eagle Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was active in Troup 890 of the Circle Ten Council where he held many leadership positions, and was awarded the Silver Beaver. H e was active in Woodbadge, Adult Leadership Training. Lewis’s hobbies included woodcarving, enjoying time at his east Texas property, and enjoying time with his grandchildren. Throughout his life, he remained very active in the Methodist church, and served in various leadership capacities in Casa Linda United Methodist Church. Our dad and husband loved His Lord, loved his family, and loved people. He was a man with a vibrant personality who was known for his generous, caring spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dallas Arboretum, or The Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America. Following a private graveside service, his memorial will be at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Road, Dallas, Texas, 75238 on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
