Librado C. Pena's Obituary
Librado Cenizaiz Peña was born in Dallas, TX to Sotero Peña & Eduviges Cenizaiz on August 17, 1924. His mother died while giving birth to his sister Guadalupe, then he was raised by his grandmother Eulogia. His father later married Maria Rios who had daughters Gloria and Ana, and son Sidney, then together had his sisters Evangelina, Augustina, Juana, Mary and brother Hijino. Levy, as he would later be known, attended Crozier Tech High School in 1941 but in lieu of graduation, decided to join the Navy with buddy Lupe (Lupio) Montero. He served his country on the attack cargo ship “USS New Hanover” in the South Pacific during WW II and earned the Victory Medal in Point Systems. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946 and came home to settle his family in Dallas. In 1951, Levy joined the “Dallas Old Timers” Baseball Team (although he was only 27!) as a catcher, among other positions. He later married his wife of 45 years, Helen, and became an avid golfer and sportsman with the Pan American Golf Association. He participated in, and won, various local and regional tournaments where he was highly revered and acclaimed by his peers. After over 30 years of loyal service, he retired from AMES Supply Company. Upon retirement he assisted his wife, Helen, with the establishment and growth of the “Mi Escuelita Pre-School System” in Dallas. He was also a loyal member of El Divino Salvador Presbyterian Church, where Helen was the Clerk of Sessions. Levy was incredibly committed to his family, children, grandchildren and valued their talents and education, whether it was attending his son Rene’s music performances, or attending the college graduation of his granddaughter Ashley, or attending family gatherings. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter Irma, as well as visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren who live in various states. Levy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen; his daughter, Inelda; brother, Hijinio; and step-siblings, Gloria and Sidney. He is survived by his daughter, Irma Pfeffer; son, Rene Peña and wife, Rebecca; granddaughters, Tammy, Pandora, Ashley, Hannah; grandsons, Alec and Daniel; great grandchildren, Dessiree, Gabriella, Anecia, Keanu; 3 great-great grandchildren, Delilah, Lillian and Constantine; sisters, Ana, Evangelina, Augustina, Norma (Juana) and Mary; his caring and constant companion of 13 years, Olivia Sullivan, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Levy will truly be missed, but his legacy continues in all his family and friends, and in the memory of the lives he touched.
