Linda Matthaei's Obituary
Linda Lee Galloway Matthaei, age 67, of Whitney, Texas passed away peacefully on February 27, 2016 in the Alzheimers facility of Glen Rose Nursing and Rehab Center in Glen Rose, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. on March 4 at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas. Born on September 4, 1948 in Heidelberg, Germany. She was the daughter of Sergeant T.Z. Galloway and Doris Ardelle Galloway. After moving around the family made Shreveport, Louisiana their home where Linda graduated from Woodlawn High School in May of 1966. She attended Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe and married Rudolf H. Matthaei in St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Shreveport on March 1, 1969. The couple lived in Memphis, TN for two years before moving to Little Rock, AK in 1971. While in Arkansas, Linda was the secretary for the Arkansas State Credit Union Association. In 1973 they moved to Irving, Texas where they raised their five children. Linda volunteered for many years as a teacher at Living Word Academy and as a Sunday School teacher at Living Word Church. In 2001 the couple retired to their lake home in Whitney, Texas where they are members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Linda was active in the community by serving for several years on the Joint Committee for Christmas and with the McCown Valley Community Center where she served as President for two years. Linda was preceded in death by her father, T.Z. Galloway and an infant son, Hans Arnold Matthaei. Survivors include her mother, Doris A. Galloway of Shreveport, La., her brother Mark Galloway and wife Sherry of Shreveport. A sister, Jan Galloway and husband Ron of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her husband of 47 years, Rudolf Matthaei of Whitney, Tx., son, Eric Matthaei and wife Rachel of Irving. Tx., daughter Anna Speier and husband Jon of Southlake, TX., daughter Esther Matthaei of College Station, TX., and sons Nathan and Stefan Matthaei of Whitney, Tx.
