LLoyd L. Pate's Obituary
Lloyd Leonidus Pate September 16, 1939 – July 4, 2019It is with great courage and a full heart that Lloyd Leonidus Pate went peacefully with God on the Fourth of July 2019. A devout family man and friend, he will forever be remembered as someone who lit up the room. Like his father before him, Lloyd built his character on principles rooted in humble upbringings. The ideals that defined him stemmed from hard work and persistence born from those who influenced him. Friends of Lloyd understand that it could be best said, “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway – John Wayne’’. He was extremely proud to be born and raised in Dallas, Texas and had great pride serving in the United States Marine Corp. As an amazing patriot and athlete, he played college football for Tyler Junior College & East Texas State. He then and went on to play in the National Football League for the Buffalo Bills. He did all this at a time when an NFL salary gave hardly enough for a man to put food on the table. After his NFL career, he was proud to coach for the Dallas Independent School District while at the same time scouting for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. After football, Lloyd spent over 30 years with Coca-Cola Bottling Company and would never think of drinking anything made by a competitor. Pride is the word that men like Lloyd use to express deep love; there is nothing in this world he was more proud of than his family. After 49 years of marriage, he has been reunited with Margaret Louise (Hickey) Pate. Their union created two sons; Colby and Brady Pate. Brady and Jessica Pate gave him three grandchildren; Sullivan, Thomas Leonidus & Charlotte Pate. He was a simple person who believed in a few things. He would look you straight in the eye and say “The name given to you at birth is the only thing you take when you die, so people better get it right.” To his family and friends, Lloyd L. Pate will be remembered as a man who wanted us to give all we have, never stop having fun, and try our best to always get it right. In lieu of flowers, Lloyd would want a donation made to the Blue Angels Foundation https://www.blueangelsfoundation.org/ for those who feel compelled to do so.Visitation for Mr. LLoyd Pate are pending at this time at Restland Funeral Home.
