Lois Morgan Brown's Obituary
Beloved wife of James Arthur Brown; Mother of Betty Barrow (Peter), Margaret Kahn (Ronald), Joan Rosiak (Michael) and Shane Gold (Charlene); Sister of Morgan Parker and Margaret Dell Burgess, stepmother of four; grandmother of 13; great grandmother of 7, Aunt of Lois, Jayne and Mandy. Lois was a child during the Great Depression. After high school, she put herself through nursing school and then enlisted in the Army, rising to 2nd Lieutenant. She married James Harris and they had three daughters in as many years. She raised the girls while the family relocated frequently. Newly single in 1960, Lois returned to work as a nurse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1962, she married Ed Gold and they had a son. The blended family moved first to Hollywood, California and eventually to the Dallas Texas suburbs, where Lois made her home for the rest of her life. Lois used her artistic flair as she successfully owned and operated an interior decorating business for 10 years before returning to nursing. Single again, in 1980 she met and married the handsome James Brown, her partner and love for the rest of her life. She retired from nursing in 2006 and continued pursuing her many interests. Lois celebrated life by living it fully. Finally settled in Texas, she put down deep roots in her community. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and taught English as a Second Language. Encouraged by Karen Sullivan, one of her “Texas daughters”, she returned to college in her 80’s to write her memoirs. Lois was a devout Christian, and when she joined the All Nations United Methodist Church in Plano, she found the friendship, love and tolerance that she had sought. She was enthralled with Bible studies, active in many church events and always found joy in singing in the choir. At the time of her passing, Lois was a member of the Prairie Creek Baptist Church. Lois had a profound effect on everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of learning, generosity, wisdom and a joy for life.
