Lois Ellen Johnson Backof's Obituary
Lois Ellen Johnson Backof was born August 27, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away in Plano, Texas on December 26, 2020. Lois grew up in New Orleans where she graduated High School at the age of 15. She studied music & voice for a year at SMU, then moved back to New Orleans where she worked at the Times-Picayune writing classifieds & obituaries, as well as Maison Blanche Department Store. Lois met her husband, Les Backof, when he was stationed in New Orleans during WWII before. They married after the war and while Les attended Tulane University, Lois worked as a Bell South operator. Their son, Alan, was born in New Orleans and after they moved to Dallas, daughter Becky, was born. The family relocated to Arlington where Lois lived for four decades. During that time she worked as an accountant and credit manager as well as Arlington ISD before retiring.
After being widowed for several years, Lois moved to Frisco, and later to Plano to be closer to family. She lived independently until the age of 91. Lois was always good at making friends and she continued enjoying bridge, attending Market Hall jewelry show, and making the turkey for family at Thanksgiving as long as she could!
Lois was preceded in death by husband Lester James Backof, father John Stanford Johnson, mother Ximena Lorena Wright Johnson and sisters Emmalee Rawls and Carol Owens. She is survived by son Alan Wayne Backof (Marsha), daughter Rebecca Ellen Roach (Walter), grandchildren Jonathan Alan Backof, Lesley Backof Alberty, Julie Backof Pippert, Whitney Roach Adshead & Logan Patrick Roach; great grandchildren Winn, Austin and Nathan Adshead, Basingstoke, England, and Evangeline Roach, Winston-Salem, N.C. Her family, immediate & extended was very important to Lois. They will miss her as their strong matriarch.
