Lu Ellen Quoss' Obituary
A daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as an aunt to many nieces and nephews and a much-loved friend to members of the Bent Tree Bible Fellowship and to volunteers and patients at RHD Memorial Hospital, Lu Ellen Quoss died peacefully on January 31, 2009, in Denton, Texas. She was born on August 21, 1918, in Talihina, OK, where she lived until shortly after she married Henry Quoss in 1935. She was the last living senior of the eleven graduates of the Talihina High School class of 1936. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Bernita, the family moved to Midwest City in Oklahoma, where during World War II Lu worked at Tinker Air Field packing parachutes while Henry worked at the Douglas Aircraft Company. After the war, the family moved to Florida before finally settling in the Dallas area in 1952. A long-time resident of Farmers Branch, Lu worked for more than twenty years as a volunteer in the critical care unit of RHD Memorial Hospital. She also worked for many years at White Swan. She joined Bent Tree Bible Fellowship in 1978 and grew with it over the years, forging a wide circle of close friends, all of whom, including Lu, were devoted to their faith. She was also a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan with her husband, who died in 1985. Lu is survived by her daughter Bernita Quoss, of Denton, grandson Randy Luce and his wife Heather, of The Colony, grandson Gregory Luce and his wife, Nancy, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Lu’s two great-grandsons, August and Max. She is also survived by a younger brother, James Gann and his wife Beth, of Lubbock, and their son Bill Gann, of Lubbock; younger sister Valda Sherrer, and husband Barney, of Mena, Arkansas; and their children, Jaree Hall (Don); Janell Van Every (Mark) and Cliff Sherrer (Pauline). She has 10 great nieces and nephews as well as too many friends to list. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 4th 10AM at the Restland Memorial Chapel in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.
