Lucy Lee Joel Ezar's Obituary
Joel “Coach” Ezar passed away suddenly while in his sleep Wednesday, August 26. He was 68 years old. He was born to Joe Ezar and Francis Matthews Ezar on July 20, 1941. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon St. Clair Ezar; son, Eric Joel Ezar and his wife Julie; daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Ezar; sister, Mary Jane Ezar of Waco; and his three grandchildren who affectionately called him “Paw Paw”, Emily, Eric Joe and Jillian Ezar. He was a graduate of North Texas State, majoring in Education and he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Joel taught and coached for Dallas I.S.D. for thirty eight years before retiring in 2002. He taught and coached at Calliet Elementary, Rusk Middle School, and retired from Skyline High School where he coached track and football. Amongst the athletes he coached were Olympian, Michael Johnson; Alan Rossen, who played for the Atlanta Falcons; Terry Crouch, an All-American at the University of Oklahoma and later played for the Indianapolis Colts; and Hodges Mitchell, who went on to star at the University of Texas. There were countless other lives he touched that still refer to him as “Coach”. He continued to be very active as a driving instructor with All Star Driving School and playing lots of golf at Brookhaven Country Club where he was a member. He will be missed by so many.
