Lynette Roberts Oliver's Obituary
Lynette Roberts Oliver was born in Gary, Indiana on July 19, 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Pauline Roberts.Lynette discovered her passion for learning in her youth. She received her formal education through the Gary, Indiana school district and went on to matriculate with an undergraduate and Master’s Degree. Lynette became an educator and taught for over forty years; 11 years with Gary Community School Corporation and 30 years with the Dallas Independent School District. In 1979, she and Kanya Lee Oliver were united in holy matrimony. To this union one daughter was born.Lynette professed her faith at an early age and at the time of her demise was a faithful member of the Greater Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a mentor and mother figure to many and made friends wherever she went.She was an active and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Soror Oliver was the epitome of the title DEARS! This Dedicated, Energetic, Active, Respected, Soror served on the Hospitality Committee, supported the Youth Initiatives, Social Action endeavors, and the chapter’s Fundraising efforts. Her sisterly spirit and fun-loving nature will be missed at the Metropolitan Dallas Alumnae Chapter.To cherish her memory, Lynette leaves behind her former husband, Kanya Lee Oliver, a loving daughter, Kortney Oliver, and a granddaughter, Kaylah Harris; all of Dallas, Texas. As a longtime Dallas area resident, she leaves a host of Sorors, Dallas educators, and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.A Prayer Service and Memorial Visitation for Ms. Lynette Roberts Oliver will be on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 6:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Greater Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church, 9333 Ferguson Rd., Dallas, TX 75228Funeral services have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, at the intersection of Restland Road and Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972)238-7111.
