Mr. and Mrs. Black were a big part of my teenage years and were also good friends of my parents. I spent many a night over at their house and was always treated with such kindness from Midge, even though I wasn't a kid from the neighborhood but a newcomer to Dallas. It's hard to lose our mommies and daddies and become an orphan. I am so happy for her and that she is surrounded in God's unconditional Love now.
My mom heard Robin's first word and saw him take his first step when they visited us for his first Christmas, in Germany. I surprised my mom and dad by putting candy switches in their stockings that year. (My parents teased us by threatening to give us switches for Christmas presents.)
Mrs. Black was my second mom and I appreciated the fact that she was for me always a calm, organized and caring person. Sharon, Mrs. Black and I would bake cookies and just talk. I admired her perseverance-whatever, life brought her she just figured out a way to make it work. I thought she was cool-being interested in handwriting analysis, nursing, quilting and cooking just to name a few. She was truly one of the most important people I had in my life guiding me with love. I thank you Mrs. Black and will always carry you in my heart.
With the Christmas season comes Christmas cards. My mother kept her cards in a large basket that I now have. Reading through the ones sent to my parents was one of my favorite things to do at Christmas.
