Margarete Katharina Edwards' Obituary
Margarete Katharina Edwards died peacefully Monday, January 12, 2015 at age 89 in Plano, Texas after a long decline from Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Mainz, Germany on December 14, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents and only sibling Anneliese Burch. She is survived by four children; Wilfried Beason, Marion Segura, Doris Meeks and Billy Edwards; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Margarete survived the hardships of war in Germany during World War II. She immigrated to the United States after marrying Robert A. Beason, an American GI in 1956. After a divorce, she had to provide for her four children. She enhanced her English, went to business school; later she earned an Associate’s Degree – all while working at various jobs, often maintaining two jobs. She retired from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and her catering business at the age of 69. Margarete was a hard worker and was proficient in many skills: cooking, sewing, knitting, painting, gardening and carpentry. She enjoyed her family, reading and the opera. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sunrise of Plano, especially Loriell and Charlie for their exceptional care the last years of her life. We would also like to thank Faith Presbyterian Hospice nurses and volunteers for the care and comfort they provided during their visits. The visitation for Margarete will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on January 14, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be January 15, 2015 at 12:30pm in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
