Marie Hogg McNiel's Obituary
Marie H. McNiel died peacefully on July 18, 2018. She was born on May 29, 1925 in Hillsboro, Texas. In her Hillsboro High School yearbook, one teacher wrote that Marie was witty…life of every party…good student…excellent conversationalist…life’s business – spreading cheer. Marie continued to spread cheer while earning a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending college Marie met James Samuel McNiel, the love of her life. Jim and Marie were married on March 15, 1945. Their partnership flourished as their journey brought them from Austin to Yuma to Dallas to Boston and back to Dallas again. Jim preceded Marie in death in 1996. She is survived by her daughters, Marianne McNiel, Margaret McNiel and Elizabeth McNiel, as well as her son-in-law George Lytle, and grandchildren, Michael Lytle, Sarah Lytle and Rachel Macfarlane.Marie was a avid tennis player, animal lover and tap dancer. She lent her dedicated spirit and leadership to many civic organizations. Her humor, intelligence and generous spirit made the world a better place for those who knew her. She will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home in the Abbey Chapel on Sunday, July 22nd at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Texas State Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood.
