Marlene Guinn's Obituary
Marlene McGuire Guinn, 83, of Dallas, passed away on July 7, 2020, after a long illness. She was born in Hamburg, Iowa on July 13, 1936. After graduation in 1957 with an English degree from Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota, she married Gene Audra Guinn and made a home in Dallas. Gene frequently introduced her as an English Major in the British Army, an term of endearment she never quite warmed up to.
With blazing-fast typing skills, she worked for over thirty years at the law firm of Passman & Jones, including as a part-time assistant for Shannon Jones, Jr.
Marlene was a completely selfless woman, putting everyone before herself. She loved Jesus Christ and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she volunteered tens of thousands of hours serving and ministering to brothers and sisters in her Oak Cliff and Kessler Park church congregations. On a Sunday, she could be found on the organ bench and in the choir loft—sometimes, it seemed, simultaneously.
Marlene loved being a mother and volunteered in her children’s schools at every level. Creating and typing each school’s PTA Directory for over ten years, she was honored with the National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award.
She was famous for her banana bread, baking and gifting nearly one hundred loaves every Christmas season.
Survived by her four children, Bonnie Schroeder (David), Barbara Colson (Mark), Brent, and Brian (Jeni); five grandchildren; and her brother, Harold “Bud” McGuire (Barbara). Preceded in death by her husband, Gene Guinn, and parents, Harold “Mac” & Bonnie McGuire.
A Private service will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel at 10am on Wednesday, July 17.
