Martha Cochran Garrett's Obituary
Martha Cochran Garrett, age 83, of Garland, Texas passed away October 2, 2022 in Rowlett, Texas. She was born to JT and Dora May Cochran on October 27, 1938 in Murray, Kentucky. Marty leaves behind her beloved husband of 62 years, Dale, along with three children and their spouses: son, John (Lisa) Garrett, son Jeff (Cindi) Garrett, and daughter Jeanne (Jason) Gilbert. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Kristina (Michael) Walkup, David (Kristina) Garrett, Austin Garrett, Hannah Garrett, Alyssa (Elliot) Le, Marshall (Kelsey) Garrett, Ashlea (Dakota) White, Tanner (Sarah) Gilbert, and Kendall (Hunter) Smith, as well as 10 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, all of whom called her “Nana”.
Marty enjoyed serving many years and countless patients as a registered nurse after studying at the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended the University of Kentucky where she met Dale. She loved the Smoky Mountains, Hawaii, and camping trips with her family. As a gifted artist, she expressed her creativity via painting, drawing and coloring. She enjoyed knitting and sewing for herself, friends, and especially for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to write, authored a poetry book and ministered to many people through her words. As she wrote in the foreward of her book of poetry, “…I find comfort in my Lord’s words, ‘Daughter, pick up thy pen and write’. I take no credit for any of this. I only write down the words He gives me, in the order they appear in my heart.” Heart Cries – 1978
She was a devoted Christian, studying and teaching Bible studies at her home church, St. Philip’s UMC in Garland, Texas. She loved birds and the new life they bring in the spring, as well as butterflies who represent resurrection. She is now spreading her wings in the glory of heaven, free from the pain she endured for many years.
