Martha L. White's Obituary
Legendary choral director Martha L. White, 81, of Terrell, TX passed away on August 2, 2020 after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Marty was born May 19, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, MO, daughter of the late Richard B. Pearcy and Geneva Philips Pearcy, also preceded in death by her sister Sherma Gorham.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert E. White, son Robert E. White Jr. and daughter-in-law Heidi, daughter Shari L. White and son-in-law Pravin Moodley, grandchildren Rob, Sterling and Oksana White, Alex Moodley, and Hannah Leifson. She is also survived by siblings Reta Turner, Patricia White and brother-in-law Bill White. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marty graduated from Garland High School in 1957, and from Texas Wesleyan University in 1961 in Music Education, and received her Master’s in Music Education from Texas A&M, Commerce. Marty began her teaching career in elementary music in Jacksboro, Texas in 1961. After marrying her husband Bob in Basel, Switzerland in 1963, she taught elementary music in New Jersey and Garland, Tx. In 1976 she moved to Lakeview Centennial High School to serve as the original choir director until her retirement in 1995.
Marty was an accomplished singer, pianist and choral director. She led her high school choirs and ensembles to numerous prestigious awards and was well known and respected as a UIL judge in the choral directors’ community throughout Texas and the country.
Marty was a devout and faithful Christian attending First Baptist Church in Terrell. She enjoyed travel, golfing, and playing gospel music on the piano. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and her large family, but was most proud of and devoted to her grandchildren.
She will be missed and loved for eternity.
