Mary Ann Mayfield Youngblood's Obituary
Age 76, died in Dallas, Texas on October 30,2015. Born April 9, 1939, in Bosque County, Texas to George Howard Mayfield and Mary Isabel Smith Mayfield, she and her family moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1941. She and her family remained in Dallas until 1951 when the family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, remaining there until relocating to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1954. It was here that she met Gary Youngblood, whom she would marry in 1957 and enjoy 58 wonderful years of marnage. Mary Ann was a very popular young lady, and in 1956 she was elected homecoming queen and football sweetheart of Grand Prairie High School. She was also a very academically talented student who was inducted into the local chapter of the National Honor Society. Mary Ann continued to excel in her studies at the university level, completing the bachelor of arts degree in English at the University of Texas at Arlington, while becoming the first person to graduate with a perfect 4.0 grade point average from that institution. She later received her MA in English from North Texas State. Mary Ann taught English in the DCCCD from 1977 until 2003. In 1994, she was awarded Cedar Valley College’s Piper Professor of the Year honor, which resulted in her being asked to deliver the college’s commencement address for that year. Mary Ann is survived by her husband Gary of 58 years, her son Keith and his wife Melissa and their son Sam, her daughter Rachel and her husband Beau. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm, November 7th at White Rock United Methodist Church, 1450 Old Gate Lane, Dallas, TX.
