Mary Bishop's Obituary
Mary "Maggie" Rhea Bishop, 98, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born on August 31, 1927, in Dallas, Mary lived a remarkable life filled with faith, love, and service to others.
A proud graduate of Hillcrest High School in 1946, Mary embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on her community and beyond. Shortly after high school, she founded her own printing company, dedicating herself to publishing Sunday programs for local churches in Dallas. Her work reflected her deep commitment to her faith and her desire to support the spiritual lives of others.
Mary's life took a transformative turn when she married J.C. Bishop and embraced the role of a pastor's wife. Together, they became missionaries and traveled the world six times, spreading their message of love and faith across continents. A gifted musician, Mary played several instruments in church services, including the organ, guitar, and bass cello. Her beautiful voice was cherished by all who heard it and will be deeply missed.
Mary's unwavering Christian faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She lived by God's command to love her neighbor and demonstrated this through acts of generosity that knew no bounds. Her home was always open to everyone—she never met a stranger—and she welcomed all with warmth and kindness.
Her passions extended beyond her faith and music. Mary had a profound love for animals and cared for an array of creatures throughout her life—ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, birds, and even a small alligator at one point. She found joy in watching birds visit her feeder and spent countless hours tending to her garden. Roses were among her favorite flowers; receiving one of Mary's handpicked bouquets was always a special gift.
Photography also held a special place in Mary's heart. Inspired by her work in printing, she developed a fascination with digitizing and adding color to old photographs—a hobby that allowed her to preserve cherished memories for future generations long before Photoshop became popular.
Mary is survived by her twin children Rebecca Watson and Russell Bishop; daughter-in-law Erin Bishop; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four bonus grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband J.C. Bishop; her parents William Earlton and Minnie Pearl Rhea; five sisters; and five brothers.
Those who knew Mary will remember her sense of humor, overwhelming generosity, and boundless capacity for love. She lived nearly a century as an example of how to embrace life fully while uplifting those around her. Her legacy is not one of loss but of celebration—a testament to the power of kindness and faith.
