Mary Duncan Boggs' Obituary
Mary F. Duncan Boggs was born on May 4, 1929, in Sulphur, OK, to father, P. Frank Duncan, and mother, Angie Kinney Duncan. Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the early morning hours of Monday, February 16, 2015, in Dallas, Texas. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Boggs, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jeremy Wanamaker, and grandsons, (Duncan) Seth and D. Beckett Wanamaker. She also leaves behind friends who will dearly miss her, and the laughter and music she spread throughout her community and household. A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Mary had many talents, aside from her talent for the Spanish language, her major in college. She was a soloist at the First United Methodist Church for several years, where she met her husband, as well as many of her lifelong friends. In addition, she was a member of the Dallas Civic Opera for its first two years. She sang at the Dallas Summer Musicals, and appeared as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony. She then went on to sing with the New Orleans Opera in Louisiana, for two seasons, before moving back to Dallas, her heart’s true home. In 1960, she married Robert, and the two spent their honeymoon moving to Schenectady, NY, where Robert began his career with General Electric. Once settled, they took the small city by creative storm, joining the Schenectady Light Opera and Schenectady Civic Players. Mary starred in, and Robert directed, several productions, including The King and I, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, She Loves Me, and Jacque Brel. In addition to her theatrical endeavors, Mary also sang with several musical organizations in the New York State area. She was a soloist with the Burnt Hills Choral Society, Oratorio Society, Capitol Hill Choral Society, and was a featured soloist in presentations of Brahms Requiem, Mozart Requiem, the Messiah, Elijah, and Dona Novis Pacem. Although, she worked through the years as a legal secretary, Mary considered her true livelihood a singer. Services celebrating Mary’s life will be held at the Restland Park Wildwood Chapel on Friday, February 20th, at 3:00pm. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 2:00pm. Bring your laughter and anecdotes about Mary’s life, to share, as you wish. She will be missed, but never forgotten. “Smiling is my favorite” -Buddy
