I was her friend in later years when she faced many physical losses. Her determination was incredible. She worked well beyond what seemed possible. I knew of her love for music & how she urged Mike to continue singing after she could not. We traveled together, mostly to breakfast, & had many laughs. She could not see yet she still had a better sense of direction then me. Ann Cordes
I enjoyed Mary Lou's friendship at both St. Paul's UMC and First UMC Richardson. She had a beautiful voice and wonderful smile. Nita Ulaszek

I was in youth choir at St. Paul's UMC when I was in jr. high. A friend and I were to sing a duet for the special music at early church. Mary Lou picked us up, took us up to the church sanctuary, taught us "It is Well With My Soul", helped us learn our parts, and accompanied us! I had never heard that hymn and it has been a favorite because she introduced it to me! As an older teen, Mary Lou gave me some very practical, no nonsense advice about how to get over a broken heart. Her words gave me courage and confidence!! Another time, I was eating the MOST decadent brownies at a church pot luck. I found out Mary Lou Made them and when I asked for her recipe, she just said,"Get the cheapest, store brand brownie mix and make it according to directions, EXCEPT: add a half package of chocolate chips to the batter, and frost the warm brownies with the other half of the chips!" I have never made brownies any other way ever since! Once, she saved me: I had painted a 5' X 7' picture for VBS with a cut out face so each child could peer through, have a photo taken, and look like a Bible days character. The morning of VBS the board that the painting was on would NOT fit in my car! I knew Mary Lou had a station wagon, so I called her with my emergency and she came and transported the painting for me! Mary Lou helped me in many ways and each is a fond memory of her!! God's comfort to all of her family and may others be of help to you, now and always, as Mary Lou was to me! Love, Diane Kayser Herrmann
