Mary Lou Caruthers' Obituary
Mary Lou Caruthers August 20, 1945 – January 6, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Caruthers, beloved wife, mother of two and friend of many. Mary Lou was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 20, 1945, the daughter of Russell Furman Johnson and Thelma Lou Johnson. Until she enrolled at S.M.U. in 1963, Mary Lou had lived her entire life in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mary Lou graduated from S.M.U. with a B.A. degree in psychology and married Michael O Caruthers in Oklahoma City on May 27, 1967. They had met while attending S.M.U. Mary Lou always loved music and working with children. She taught many children through private piano lessons. At St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Garland, Mary Lou sang in the adult choir for many years and directed children’s choirs for a number of those years. As a member of First United Methodist Church Richardson, she sang for a brief period of time with the Chancel Choir. She has also been involved in United Methodist Women over the years and, at one point, served as a district officer for UMW. When not raising children, Mary Lou’s primary field of work was as a medical transcriptionist. This pursuit included jobs at Richardson Orthopedic Surgery, TRX Transcription Prescription, Inc. and MD-IT Transcription Services – a division of Oasis Outsourcing. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Furman Johnson and Thelma Lou Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Michael O Caruthers, her son, Michael Patrick Caruthers, her daughter, Cynthia Erin Francis, Cynthia’s husband, Jeff and their son, Connor. Mary Lou was deeply loved and she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15 at: First United Methodist Church Richardson 503 North Central Expressway Richardson, TX 75080 972-235-8385
