Mary Elmore Roughton's Obituary
Mary Elmore Roughton peacefully passed away on August 8, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Mary was born on October 22, 1921 to Frank H. and Blanche Elmore in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from North Dallas High School and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She worked and retired from Braniff Airways for 22 years where she met her husband, Turner Roughton. Mary and Turner were married on May 1, 1954 and were happily together for 46 years before Turner’s death in 2000. Mary’s life was full of love for others and everyone loved her. Travel was her passion and her bag was always packed for the next adventure. She also loved flowers and gardening. She was actively involved in the lives of her large family and her friends and cherished each memory of fun and loving times. We will all miss her so much. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Turner Roughton, her adoring four sisters, Charlotte Elmore, Evelyn Hill, Louise Doran and Adelina Cronkhite, her loving parents, Frank and Blanche Elmore and her beloved niece, Sally Marr. Those left to remember her spirit are her daughters and their families, Barbara and Tom Bradshaw of Colleyville, TX and Teresa and Jim Wood of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mary is survived by four grandchildren and their families, Brian and Amy Bradshaw of Dallas, Ashley and Jason Riley of Trophy Club, TX, Amber Penn of Jacksonville, TX, and Melanie Gould of Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition, she is survived by 11 loving great- grandchildren, Jack, Caroline, and James Bradshaw; Ava, Turner, Brooks and Everette Riley; Harrison, Kenley and Hutton Penn; and Logan Gould. Mary is also survived by very loving nieces and nephews and their families, including Susan and Roger Lindsey of Galveston, TX, Betty Laudieri and Jim Blair of Casstown, Ohio, John and Saundra Cronkhite, Jr. of Pharr, TX, Thomas Cronkhite and Caroline Cottom, of Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico, Jerry Cronkhite of Seattle, WA, Katherine and John Freeman of Elizabethton, TN, Jerry and Liz Hill, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, Janet and John Herron of Dallas, TX, and Jeff and Lisa Hill of Austin, TX. In addition, she is loved and will be remembered by numerous great nieces and nephews and their families and many friends. The family would like to thank all of the supportive caregivers at Windsor Senior Living in Dallas as well as Dr. Maureen Gutierrez for her compassionate care. A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
