Melinda Hazan Varnell's Obituary
Melinda Hazan Varnell passed away peacefully on the evening of August 6, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved Mother, wife, sister, Na, (grandmother), Great-grandmother, cousin and friend. She was born in NY, but Texas was home. Melinda graduated from Hunter College with a Teaching degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten, and once her first child was born, she was a substitute teacher. She raised three children, mostly as a single mother. Mindy, as she was often called, was feisty, determined, and assertive. She was not the norm for her time. Later in life she volunteered at a Woman’s Shelter, and she was a baby rocker at the hospital prior to covid. She played Mahjong, and she enjoyed her grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of love and family. Melinda is proceeded in death by her husband Gary Varnell (2008), her parents Salvatore (1995) & Lena (1998) Hazan, her brothers Zachary (2004) & Robert (2015) Hazan, step-son Matt Varnell (2017) and Great-Grandson Hank Zager (2019). She is survived by her children Stefan Fenster (Laura), Shara Lattimore (Jay), Rebeka Rinderknecht (Clayton), her Stepson Todd Varnell, her grandchildren, Aerica Plewa (Frank), Ashton Zager (Casey), & Alissa Fenster, Makayla & Kade Lattimore, Samantha, Alex (Lauren), Justin & Charlie Rinderknecht and her Great-Grandchildren Emmitt & Lincoln Plewa, Louie & Benji Zager, & Vaida Bryant. The family is holding a funeral service on August 9, 2024, at 10 am Restland, 13005 Greenville Ave Dallas, TX.
