Michael Wayne Horton's Obituary
Michael Horton passed from this earth into the presence of the Lord on April 28, 2020. He was born April 3, 1954 to Bill and Janice Horton in Dallas, Texas. Mike was preceded in death by his mother in 2000, father in 2013, and older sister, Linda Atchley in 2010.
He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1972 and earned a BA in Education from Texas Tech University in 1976. He was a coach at North Garland High School for 7 years then went on to become an entrepreneur. He owned and operated several successful businesses, including a pest control company, dry cleaners, and a pizza restaurant. For the past 15 years, he has been a teacher and coach for Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas. He was beloved by students, teachers, and fellow coaches.
Mike grew up attending a Baptist Church in Dallas Texas where he gave his life to Christ as a child. Throughout his life, he has been an active member in church and has served in various roles such as deacon and teacher.
He was married to Keri Arrington Horton from 1983 to 2018. They had three children- Karlee Greer, Erica Horton, and Adam Horton. He is survived by his children, son-in-law Danny Greer, and four grandchildren- Dylan Moore, Genevieve Horton, Everett Greer, and Georgia Greer.
Mike greatly enjoyed spending his spare time with his children, grandchildren, and the rest of his family. He was also an avid sportsman. He enjoyed playing and coaching a wide variety of sports. But he spent the most time playing or coaching baseball, softball, soccer, and football. Mike also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and taking on service projects through his church.
Mike was a cherished and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We remember him with great love and joy.
But we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
