Michael Roy Hudspeth's Obituary
Michael Roy Hudspeth passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the age of 72. Mike was born on July 23, 1950, to Roy James Hudspeth and Mary Hudspeth Griffin in Dayton, Texas growing up on a rice farm then moving to Cleveland, Texas where he graduated from Cleveland High School in 1968. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University on a track and field scholarship where he lettered throwing the shot put and discus. Here he met and married his wife Susan of 49 years and received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. He went on to receive his Master's degree at East Texas State University in Educational Administration and later received his computer science certification at the University of Texas at Dallas.
During his career, he taught school in Hillsboro, Texas, Henderson, Texas, and retired after 29 years in Richardson ISD where he taught Math, Science, Computer Science and Drivers Education. He also coached football and track, was the scorekeeper at Friday night football games, and drove a bus throughout his teaching career. After retiring from teaching he became a neighborhood block captain and a member of the neighborhood watch patrol.
Mike enjoyed spending time with Susan and his boys, bowling, hunting, camping, and assisting in Boy Scouts. Most of all, he enjoyed his four grandchildren who knew him as POPS. When asked what he wanted to be called by his grands, he replied, “I don’t care as long as they call me.”
Mike is survived by his wife Susan and his two sons, Matthew and his wife Amy, Aaron and his wife Ashley, four grandchildren, Ryan, Sydney, Mark, and Hadley, sisters Sherri Hudspeth, Marilyn DeMoss, and brother Wayne Hudspeth.
A memorial service to honor Mike will be held at the Restland Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals or a charity of your choice.
