Michael Daron Kamp's Obituary
Michael Daron Kamp, 50, of Richardson, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 24.
He was born in Sherman, Texas, on November 3, 1973, as the oldest child of Mary and Frank Kamp, and was a beloved brother to siblings Steven and Christine.
Throughout his life, Michael was known for his easy smile, piercing blue eyes and his positive, outgoing and friendly nature. One of his biggest joys in life was contributing to the happiness of others, and so he was treasured by many as a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend.
Michael graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas with a sense of purpose and adventure. He attended the University of Southern California where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Business Economics and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon graduation, he began a 30-year career in the financial services industry, including counseling individual investors at Charles Schwab, working as a financial software consultant helping money managers nationwide maximize their business operations, and most recently, as a federal bank examiner contributing greatly to the financial resilience of our country. Over his career Michael was valued for his mix of excellent people and analytical skills. In his personal time, Michael was never shy about doing hard manual labor. Like his dad, he faced projects head on, doing whatever was required to solve the problem or complete the project.
Always up for an adventure, Michael sought out challenges and fun alike, readily embracing difficult tasks or learning new skills. He cared deeply about people, relating easily to strangers, as well as those lucky enough to call him family or friend. He looked for ways to bring a smile to others' faces, no matter the circumstances.
As a child of God and a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly, Michael was steadfast in his faith. He sought to deepen his faith by reading books and scripture, and sought guidance from his parish priests. Inspired by Christ’s teachings and a desire to live a purposeful life in relationship with God, Michael stood up for his beliefs. He was always quick to say yes to any request for assistance, be that volunteering, leading, helping or supporting the causes close to his heart. This willingness to openly express his views and compassionately share his wisdom made him a trusted ally within his Tulsa parish, where he led the men’s group, was a catechist for those seeking to convert, and served as a sponsor for youth preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation and as a Godfather to those being baptized.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
We will miss Michael’s infectious smile and engaging laughter for the rest of our lives, but we will keep his memory alive by sharing stories of his life and supporting the people and causes he loved.
Michael is survived by his parents, Mary and Frank Kamp, brother, Steven, sister, Christine Engler (John), and nephews, Jack and Grayson. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday, August 19th at Sacred Heart Cemetery (3900 Rowlett Rd.) in Rowlett, Texas, with interment immediately following. A small gathering will take place following the interment at Rowlett Community Centre (5300 Main St, Rowlett, TX 75088).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:
Society of Vincent de Paul - offering person-to-person service to neighbors in need
Brain & Behavior Research Foundation - 100% of donations fund research paving the way to new treatments and preventative measures for psychiatric illness
