M.L (Bill) Cooper's Obituary
Our Dad, Bill Cooper, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016. Bill was 93 years old. His life began on August 14, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska. His family struggled to stay together and went where his parents could find work. They settled in Houston, Texas and Bill, the oldest of 4 children, helped support the family by working for Western Union as a telegram delivery boy in downtown Houston. He married Grace Laverne McArdle in February, 1945 and that marriage, lasting over 68 years, produced 3 children, Suzanne, Catherine, and Thomas. The family has grown to include spouses, 4 granddaughters and 4 great grandchildren with the joyous anticipation of another expected in December of 2016. He is also survived by his sister, Colene Lange of Huntington Beach, Ca. Bill served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant on board the destroyer, USS Gurke. After military, he completed studies at Rice University and graduated in 1947. His working career was with Humble Oil, now known as ExxonMobil. Starting in the oil fields in Friendswood, Texas, he worked in Budget and Finance for over 35 years and retired in 1982 here in Dallas. The family would like to suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to your preferred charity would be an honor. He supported many charities but the one that meant the most to him was the Alzheimer’s Association of Dallas. Alzheimer’s Disease took the love of his life, Grace, in April of 2013. You are invited to celebrate his life with our family and friends. There will be a viewing at Restland Funeral Home, Friday, September 9 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bill Cooper is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church located at the intersection of Audelia and Northwest Highway, 8525 Audelia Road, Dallas Texas.
