Nancy Madeline (Basse) Merchant's Obituary
Nan Merchant passed away on June 26, 2010 at 2:28 a.m. after a long battle with lung cancer. Nan was born February 18, 1931 in Wollaston, Massachusetts to Madeline (Rowe) Basse and Albert Basse. Nan was a graduate of Belmont High School in Belmont, Ma. and attended Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. She became a flight attendant for Capitol Airlines and then worked as a reservation agent for American Airlines at National Airport in Washington DC. While there she met Air Force Tech Sergeant David H. Merchant and three months later they were wed in the chapel at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington DC by the Reverend Charles D. Bayha (AF). Nan and Dave celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past June 6th. In 1953 they moved to the Boston area, built a home in Lexington, Ma and began to raise a family. They moved to Dallas, Tx in November of 1967 where they lived in the Casa Linda area on Vinewood Dr. In 1978 they built a home on Cedar Creek Lake in Tool, Tx. There they made many friends and fond memories. Nan was an active member of the Republican Party and served on the Board of Directors of the library at Cedar Creek Lake. Nan was the Human Resource Director and Marketing Director for Chroma-Tone Inc. from 1988 until 2005. In 2004 after living 26 years at Cedar Creek Lake they bought a home in Garland, Tx and have resided there until her death. Nan was preceded in death by her youngest son Dale Albert Merchant. She is survived by her husband, David Houston Merchant. Son, David Houston Merchant Jr. Daughter-in law, Andrea (Mena) Merchant. Seven Grandchildren: Amber Renee Merchant, Ashley Nicole (Merchant) Conn, Lance Corporal Joshua Mena USMC, Georgina Urbina Mena, Jose Anthony Mena, Susan Carroll Mena and Catalina (Perez Rodriguez) Mena. Eight Great-grandchildren: Malorie Conn, Aiden Merchant, Joshua Alexia Mena (a.k.a. Nan’s Best Friend), Skylar Conn, Brogan Smith, Lawson Conn, Sofia Jade Mena and Andrecito (Mena) Gomez. Sister-in-law Ellen (Basse) Dietz of Massachusetts, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Wallace and Betty Merchant of Texas. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews throughout Massachusetts, Texas, Arizona, and California. Memorial Service to be held Wednesday July 7, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel located at Restland Memorial Park 13005 Greenville Avenue Dallas, Texas 75243. A reception for family and friends will be held after the services (location to be announced). In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the National Cancer Society.
