Newton Cameron Beam Jr.'s Obituary
Newton Cameron Beam, Jr., age 88, of Denton, Texas passed away on January 25, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on September 30, 1932 in Stamford, Texas to N. C. Beam, Sr. and Emma Louise McCrary Beam. He married Ruth Marie Bloom on September 15, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Newton (also known as Cameron or Bubba by family) graduated from Wellington High School in 1950. He joined the U. S. Navy and served for 4 years as an aviation structural mechanic. It was during his military service on the island of Bermuda that he met Ruth, the love of his life, and where they spent their first year of marriage. He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas in Austin and worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas for 28 years as a mechanical engineer. Newton was active in his children’s lives and volunteered as a baseball, soccer, and football coach and as a Boy Scout leader. He was also a very loyal Texas Longhorns fan! While in Dallas, he was an active member and deacon of Trinity Fellowship Church. After retiring from T.I., Newton became a licensed private pilot and enjoyed flying as a hobby. He loved to exercise by walking/jogging and hunting for “treasures” along the way. Newton also enjoyed playing bridge with Ruth and their lifelong friends.
He was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer! In 2011, he and Ruth moved to Good Samaritan Society in Denton, Texas where they continued to play bridge with their newly found friends. Newton loved to do jigsaw puzzles and was known by some as “the puzzle guy.” Above anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Newton is survived by his son: Eric Beam (Sanger), his daughters: Susan Beam (Mesquite), Lisa Beam Patton and husband Lendal (Sanger), his grandchildren: Austin Beam and wife Lauren (Katy), Kyle Patton and wife Susie (Krum), Marshall Patton and wife Kristen (Garland), Brodie Beam and fiancée Lexie Mulford (Sanger), his great grandchildren: Brooks and Berkley Beam (Katy), Tatum and Walker Patton (Krum), his sister-in-law: Marilyn Beam (Amarillo), his dear companion: Helen McMurtry, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Ruth Beam and his brothers: Louie Beam and Tommy Beam.
There will be a visitation at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on Monday, February 8th, from 3:00-5:00 pm. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Brad Cockrell, will be held at Restland on Tuesday, February 9th, at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cal Farley’s Boys
