Ogden B. Compton Jr.'s Obituary
COMPTON, Ogden Bingham, 87 passed away peacefully on August 13, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father Ogden Bingham Compton Sr, his mother Virginia Hankins Compton, Daughter Sharon Compton, and son William Compton. Survived by sons Bob Compton, Eddie Compton, Grand daughters Courtney Adkins, Ashley Miglini and Kellie Allyn. He had 6 great grand children. Born in Ithaca, NY his family soon moved to Texas where he attended North Dallas High School in 1949. After some junior college he received a football scholarship to Hardin-Simmons University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He then served in the United States Army in the First Guided Missile Brigade at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. After service he was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in the National Football League in 1955. As a quarterback he completed the second-longest touchdown pass play in NFL history. It was 98-yards to Dick “Night-train” Lane against the Green Bay Packers. Both players have their names listed in the NFL Hall of Fame for that play. In 1956 he began a successful insurance career that lasted the next 50+ years. He won every sales award the company had to offer. He loved playing and watching sports in general including golf and tennis with his favorite being football. He excelled at everything he attempted to do throughout his life.
