Opal Lee Joplin's Obituary
Opal Leona Joplin, nee Bolton, age 102 born, June 22, 1912 in Grand Prairie, TX, passed unto Life Everlasting on February 04, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Cecil Vernon Joplin; daughter, Doris Inez Joplin; parents, Robert Baker and Eunice Augusta (Langston) Bolton; sisters, Ethel Bolton, Dottie I. Wilkinson, Jewel Smith, Willie Belle Burt; brothers, Aubrey Bolton and Cecil Bolton. Opal is survived by her son, Roy V. Joplin and life partner, Fred Hoffman, of Dallas; sister-in-law, Frances Lockhart; brother-in-law, Harris Joplin and his wife, Juanita of Dallas; nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Her parents moved to the Garland & Sachse area in 1913. She went to Sachse School in the 1920’s and attended Sachse Christian Church. She moved to Dallas at age 14 and attended various schools. She married Cecil Vernon Joplin on Oct. 10, 1931. He passed away on Oct. 29, 1991. Cecil also attended Sachse School where they met at ages 10 & 9. They traveled to Canada and all U.S states visiting all State Capitols except Hawaii. Opal retired from Fidelity Union Life Ins. in 1969, and Cecil retired from Texas Instruments in 1972. In 1938 they joined and faithfully attended various Baptist Churches later joining First Baptist Church of Richardson, TX in Oct. 1970. The visitation for Opal will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 08, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Opal will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 09, 2015 in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
