I just learned that Orville had passed away in 11December last year (2020). I was privileged to play on the TJ football team with Orville in 1958-59. He was a valued friend and team mate who was really a “gentle giant” and a dependable friend. I am sorry for the loss of a valued friend.
My condolences to his family.
Sorry I am so late. Another team mate from that TJ “Rebels” just informed me of Orville’s passing.
A loss for all who knew him.
I remember when I was about 15 Orville and Terry Lancaster and my brother Doug Roberts took my parents car out for a little around the block joyride. Parents were not at home of course. They ran into a big puddle of water and flooded the car and it would not run. So they came back to the house and woke me up and just started hilariously harassing me as they always did. They were seniors in high school then. I adored Orville and am so saddened by his loss. I have very fond memories of Orville. He was my favorite of all my brothers friends. He will forever be in my heart.❤️💔
I was a a sophomore at TJ when Orville was a senior. He was a great pitcher and even better catcher on the TJ baseball team. I had the honor of pitching the first district game and Orville was the catcher and clean up hitter. I was nervous and Orville told me to relax and throw strikes. It all worked out. In another game later that year a big base runner on the other team ran over our sophomore second base man. The next time Orville came to bat he got a double. The guy who ran over our second baseman played third base. On the first pitch Orville took off for third. When he got to third he smashed the third base man and drove him all the way to the fence on the third base side of the field at Riversheon Park. We had no more problems with base runners. I looked up to Orville he was an example for me. Sorry he is gone, it is way to soon.
