Paul Geczi's Obituary
Paul Geczi was born on October 24, 1940, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, to parents Ondrej and Ludmila Geczi, during the second World War. He passed away on December 10, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, after living a full life. Paul grew up in Prague, where he met and married his wife Jarmila. Shortly before the Prague Spring, in 1967, Paul came to the U.S. on a scholarship to Ohio. Jarmila joined him several months later, and they ended up staying when the Czech borders closed in 1968. They settled in Ohio, where they resided for ten years, and then moved to Texas via California. In 1976, Paul and Jarmila welcomed their first child, Alexandra, and in 1979, their second child Veronica was born. Paul worked in the banking industry and had a successful career as a banker and banking consultant, playing an instrumental role in opening the first American branch of Komercni Banka, in helping new businesses such as La Madeleine get their start, and in developing the banking industry in Kyrgyzstan and other developing countries. After retirement, he became actively involved in Sokol and the local Czech community. He taught banking and economics at the prestigious Charles University, worked with the City of Dallas Sister Cities program for many years, and he was a lifetime member of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. He travelled the world extensively, and he enjoyed art, theater, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. Paul is survived by his wife Jarmila, his daughters Alexandra and Veronica, his granddaughter Isabel, his brother George, and extended family in the Czech Republic. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road.
