I was thinking about the bulk of knowledge that Paul Johnston had amassed in his years of service to the Church of the Good Shepherd and to Scouting. In an instant it was lost as he was taken from us.
It’s a little like the feeling one gets when the computer beeps a few times and fails to start. You know that your disk drive has crashed. All the pictures and letters and recipes and jokes and homework, and inspirational bits you have collected over the years are lost, in an instant. But wait a minute; you did as you were told; you made back-up copies. All your hard work is not lost.
Paul had a back-up system. It was people. He went out and found . . . people. He did as he was told, and made back-up copies. His influence and work is continued in the lives of the people he touched, who will in turn draw upon his spirit and enthusiasm to influence young people and those who inspire them. Paul, we’ve got your back.
For all the saints, who from their labors rest,
Who thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia.
Alleluia.
