Paul M. Johnston's Obituary
Paul M. Johnston was born in Houston, Texas on March 31, 1943. He passed away August 20, 2017 while attending WoodBadge 122’s closing graduation luncheon at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He is survived by his friend, companion and wife of more than 50 years, Janie, his sons Paul M Johnston II, Robert (Kyleigh) Johnston and daughter Routh (Pete) Barker and his grandchildren, Jessica Miller, George Johnston, Taylor Johnston, Samantha Johnston, Zoe Barker and Sophia Barker. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Johnston. Paul graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, Texas. He went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he began working for Merchants Fast Motor Lines. Paul also worked for TOX Trucking Line, and was a managing partner of Cherokee Terminals. At the time of his death, Paul was working for the Boy Scouts of America, Circle Ten Counsel, running the print shop. Paul was a longtime member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and very active in his parish. He began his service in the church as an acolyte when he was a teen. He also served as Junior Warden and Vestry. Paul was known for his leadership in the Boy Scouts. He served as a leader for Troop 124 at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Troop 835 at Schreiber Memorial United Methodist Church and Pack 349 at Westwood Montessori. Paul also served as a staff member at four Boy Scout National Jamborees. He received numerous awards while working in the Boy Scouts at the District level (both Northern Trail and Blackland Prairie) including the District Award of Merit and the Akela Cub Award. He was most proud of his Silver Beaver Award and the Saint George Award. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8th from 5pm – 7pm, in the Parish Hall at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9th at 10 am at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s memory to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or the Boy Scouts of America.
