"Peggy" Margaret J. Marshall's Obituary
Margaret Jones Marshall
Peggy died gracefully at her home on August 11, 2021. She was born on January 3, 1926 to her loving parents, S.C. & Jane Jones. Peggy was raised in University Park where she attended Highland Park High School and then went on to graduate from SMU. There she was a Delta Gamma and the Lambda Chi Sweetheart where she met her husband of 52 years Ray Leon Marshall. In 2015 she was also selected as a MVM(Most Valuable Mustang). They had three children, Mike, Johnny and Jan. For many years Peggy balanced her life between working for Leon and raising her children. Somehow she managed to give 100% to both careers. Peggy loved to entertain and be with her family either at their home in Dallas or their lakehouse in East Texas. Whether it was a Sunday afternoon Cowboy game, Thursday mornings with her boys and egg and toast or wine with her daughter and friends, she was the epitome of a Mom and wife. She was well known for her tortilla soup, fried chicken and oatmeal cookies. And yes she did win a competition for her fried chicken! Her grandkids, who called her Mumu, loved laughing with her and helping her cook oatmeal cookies.
After her husband passed Peggy was blessed with a second love and soulmate, Al Pope. They spent three loving years together enjoying life to the fullest. Sadly he passed in 2012.
In her final years her memory began to fade but due to the dedicated loving care of her caregivers, Mimi and Yolanda, each day she was beautifully dressed along with her jewelry. No surprise that her makeup and hair was always impeccably done. She remained as sweet, as proud and as proper as she always had been.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jimmy Jones, her husband Leon and her second love, Al. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mike Marshall (Twana), Johnny Marshall (Debra) and Jan Pepper (Louis). She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Carissa, Bradley, Katherine (Oliver), Sam, David, Toni (Drew), Lexi and Michael. She also had five great grandchildren; Brittany, Kelsey, Ella, Norah and Dani and two great great grandsons, Wyatt and Landyn. She is also survived by her nephew Randy(Terri) and her niece Melissa with their children Chris, Brad and Kendall. Blessed with a large extended family her life was filled with many others including those from book clubs, bridge clubs and long term friendships
With the help of her family and loving caregivers Peggy died the same way she lived- with amazing dignity and amazing grace.
She will have a private family burial service. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Bea’s Kids P.O.Box 110165 Carrollton, Texas 75011-0165
