Retta was our neighbor for the last 13 years. She was a remarkable lady and we were always amazed at her spirit and care for others. She was constantly knitting or crocheting scarves and hats for the underserved population or newborns in the hospital. She wanted to garden but due to her health she had not been able to the last few years. She loved it when we were recycling books and she would pull out ones she wanted to read. Her family was very prescious to her and she loved talking about her new grandson, and her older granddaughter who she was very proud of and her accomplishments. The last time I saw her at CC Young she told me she was knitting hats for the staff at CC Young who had been so nice to her. Margaret, her daughter was so kind and spent many weekends helping her mom and setting up ways for her to be able to live at home as her health began to fail. Her daughter-in-law was also such a great support working on ways to help Retta stay at home. She always looked forward to Sunday's when her children, spouses and grandchildren came to her house for dinner. Retta loved life, people, and enjoyed learning and sharing with others. We will truly miss her and are sad she is no longer our neighbor, but we are so glad she is no longer in pain and in a better place with her husband. I am saddened by the passing of Mrs. Holland. She will continue to live on in the memories and characters of her three children, who will miss her terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with them in this very tough time.
