Retta Fain Holland's Obituary
On the evening of July 11, 2016, Retta passed away at C.C. Young from the effects of cancer. She was 86 years old. Retta Fain Wayland was born on September 12, 1929 in Black Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from Jonesboro High School and attended Arkansas State University where she met Harry T. Holland. They married and moved to Dallas. She received her bachelor’s degree at Southern Methodist University and her master’s degree from North Texas State University. Retta taught as a substitute teacher for the Richardson Independent School District and as a telecourse teacher at Richland Community College. She later worked as an oil & gas bookkeeper for many years. Retta was a voracious reader and loved to write. She loved projects such as gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and oil painting. She also had a passion for spoiling any dog or cat that came near her house. Retta was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and survived by children Eric, Margaret, and Jeff wife, Melissa; and two grandchildren, Heather and Harrison.“Retta’s sister and brother-in-law, Greta and John Troutt of Jonesboro, Arkansas, also survive her.” The family gives a very special thanks to the staff at the C. C. Young Lawther Point East for their wonderful care and compassion. The service for Retta Holland will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2016 in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
